January, 29th 2009 - First Swiss Book-Shop supports OpenID™ The first Swiss online book shop Enagain GmbH supports OpenID™ as an additional authentication method for the personal user registration and login. According to its own statements the integration of OpenID ™ required only a few days taking into account all work such as development, testing and deployment into production. This short time period speaks for OpenID™, especially the integration increases the benefits of shop users, they do not need to remember yet another user name and password for the Enagain login. The user can use his own personal OpenID ™ for shop login and in combination with a security token as YubiKey, AXSionics Internet Passport ™ or SSL client certificate (e.g. Swiss Post Certificate) its security increase on the Internet. We congratulate the Enagain GmbH to support OpenID ™ and hope that other web stores and internet services will go down that route. Its would allow their users a simple and secure login to the Internet without many different passwords they have to remember.

December, 3rd 2008 - AXSionics goes OpenID™ in Cooperation with Clavid AG AXSionics goes OpenID™. The AXSionics Internet Passport combined with OpenID™ is now available for everyone for free in cooperation with Clavid AG .
In August 2008 the test phase was launched. Now the Clavid service is fully functional and can be used by everone as part of AXSionics public-service strategy. By integrating the AXSionics Internet Passport and OpenID™, Clavid provides a Single Sign-On system (SSO) based on biometric user data. The services offers the greatest possible security for user identification for all OpenID supported web services on the Internet.
OpenID™ nutshell: Today, internet web services are used daily with different user IDs and passwords. Therefore, user’s have often difficulties to remember the variety of IDs and passwords used. As a result, some web services are used only rarely. OpenID™ eliminates the need for multiple usernames and passwords across different websites, simplifying the online experience through its open specification. In addition it can integrate e.g. the AXSionics Internet Passport easily.
The OpenID Europe Foundation (OIDE) www.openideurope.eu was created in Brussels on June, 2007, to help, promote, protect and enable the OpenID framework in Europe, by participating actively in its development and by facilitating its adoption by the European users and European services. November, 17th 2008 - Clavid added support for any kind of client-side SSL/TLS certificates Many users are already equipped with client-side SSL certificates. Such client-side certificates might be provided by an employer, by the government or a user bought a SSL client certificate from an issuer or a user might even have created a own, self-signed client certificate. Users of the Clavid OpenID provider can now add their existing client-side SSL certificates to their Clavid Account and use it to access all OpenID enabled services. A user can even add multiple certificates (e.g. one from the employer, one from the government and a private one) to one single account and combine all these certificates in one OpenID. This is an important step in user-centric, strong OpenID authentication giving the users free choice of their issuer of client-side SSL certificates. |

June, 24th 2008 - OpenID @ Jazoon'08, Zürich, Schwitzerland Jazoon’08, the international conference on Java technology, held today at Sihlcity in Zurich, Switzerland, attracted many international Java developers to get latest information on Java and other modern web technologies. Robert Ott (OpenID Switzerland ) and Fredi Weideli (CTO, clavid ag ) presented OpenID and its User-Centric Identity Management for Java Applications to a wide number of Java developers. Even though OpenID was new to many of the attending Java developers, there was great interest on the topic and how OpenID can be integration into web-based Java applications. Not only OpenID was shown and explained, also many possible authentication mechanisms already in place for OpenID were illustrated. These authentication mechanisms included username/password, Swiss Post Certificate as well as the biometric Internet passport from AXSionics . Attendees were surprise how far OpenID already got and how easy they can integrate OpenID into their web-based Java applications. March, 18th 2008 - OpenID - User Centric Identity Management for Java Application
clavid ag @ JAZOON'08Tuesday, 24. June 2008, Time 2.00pm Speakers Robert Ott (CFO), Fredi Weideli (CTO), clavid ag Topics- Integration and interoperability frameworks and techniques - Web 2.0 technologies - Securtiy Abstract OpenID is a specification for user-centric authentication available in its version 1.1 and 2.0. Big IT companies such as Google, IBM, Microsoft, VeriSign, Yahoo and many more have joined the OpenID foundation over the last years. As the user's identities are URI-based, it integrates perfectly in Internet based systems. It addresses most topics when it comes to Internet authentication systems including independence of programming languages, keeping users in the center of their privacy, allowing interoperability and – not at least – reducing the number of users credentials such as passwords or security tokens for users. OpenID 2.0 is now turning into an open community-driven platform that allows and encourages innovation. It supports both URLs and XRIs as user identifiers, uses Yadis XRDS documents for identity service discovery, adds stronger security, and supports both public and private identifiers. Java, as one of the major development platforms when it comes to enterprise systems, can take huge advantage of OpenID when web bases Java applications get provided to the Internet user community. In many cases, it can make application specific username/password stores completely obsolete. In addition, as the specification is not tight to a single authentication mechanism, the web bases Internet services supporting OpenID as a consumer take full advantage when new authentication mechanism get introduces by Internet Identity Providers (IIP). The talk gives an overview on the OpenID specification, the OpenID foundation, Identity Providers specifically for Switzerland, current and future Internet authentication methods, Business-to-OpenID federation techniques – and – of course Java-API's that can be used to open web based Java applications to support user-centric OpenID authentication. |

March, 4th 2008 - OpenID @ Net-ID 2008, Basel, Switzerland Net-ID 2008, the fourth annual European conference on Identity, Trust, Privacy and Security, organized by Computas Event Manamement was held at the Ramada Plaza hotel in Basel, Switzerland on 3rd/4th of March 2008. Speakers and Participants have come to that international event from many international locations such as most countries of Europe as well as the United States, Japan, Korea, etc. With topics such as eID projects of European countries, user centric identity management, identity federation, privacy concerns, cross country alliances and – of course – OpenID have made the conference a huge success. Especially OpenID was present with a wide range of representatives from OpenID Europe (Snorri Gioretti), OpenID Estonia (Martin Paljak), OpenID Japan (Nat Sakimura) and the local representative of OpenID Switzerland (Robert Ott). Much interest at the audience gave the speech by Martin Paljak on OpenID and e-Government in Estonia where eID’s can be used not only for local government services, but also for all Internet services around the world that implemented the OpenID protocol. Many participants at the conference where surprised that OpenID can be seen as an enabler to increase the use of eID’s without implementing complicated federation protocols. There were many interesting talks on identity management and the role of OpenID during the coffee breaks, the festive dinner and business lunches. It was a great honor that Nat Sakimura especially came to this event from Japan to exchange experiences on local OpenID chapters with his colleagues from Europe. OpenID not only grows day for day in its population, the OpenID network of individual people form an international friendship breaking barriers and increasing interoperability! Here a picture of the OpenID group at the festive dinner at Net-ID 2008:
